Arena Riding Training Patterns

Keep the routine and pattern you ride in a arena always changing. don’t let your horse anticipate the pattern or lose focus from doing the same thing over and over. cut diagonal. Do a little circle to the right in every corner, do the same circle in every corner going the other way. Make a circle in the middle of every straight away.

Trailor Loading

Welcome to learning to load your horse ion a trailer! I’ll write more about this later but the basics are for you and your horse to be safe. It can be easy to get run over if you are in the trailer with your horse and it spooks and panics to get out fast. My horse squeezed through the escape hatch in a little two horse straight load. i have no idea how he got through there the door is barely big enough for a person but he did. Anyway you don’t want to be in the way the horse sees an escape because they will run you over.

Clearly the most popular trailer these days are slant load.  there are many ideas on how to lead horses and i will try to cover several ways here over time.

The first method is to keep your horse moving until they do something to make a move for the trailer. So, with you lead rope move your horse to the rear of the trailer. Let them smell and get used it ot but dont let them stand to long. standing is a reward for doing something correctly. each time you bring them to the trailer look for progress. if there is progress you can let them stand a minute. even if it is just putting a hoof up in the traler that is progess. Now until they go all the way in dont let them stand to long. If they go all the way in you can let them stand as long as they want. otherwise keep their feet moving.
